General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The settling of inflammation & pain after knee joint replacement takes up to 3 months & complete disappearance of pain & swelling would be after one year of surgery.
Pain medicines as ER need/physiotherapy & continued movements are vital for the prevention of fibrosis & adoption of activities in a replaced joint.
You should consult your operating surgeon when you have increased pain & swelling with a decrease in the range of movements for better assessment & needful guidance/help in management.
Please don't be tensed. Keep on trying though tuff to follow that's the way to achieve the maximum out of surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
