What Causes Swelling Around A Surgical Incision Indicate?

Hi my husband is 5 Days post op rt knee replacement I notice more swelling on his operated site and his temp fluctuates I noticed 2 Days ago from 100.4 ,99.7 down to normal if taking Percocet and acetaminophen . Hx - stage 3 kidney disease left in hospital creatine 1.7 COPD, Sleep Apnea,Asthma . My assessment Lung sounds clear, foamy urination and frequent, rt mid calf +2 pitting edema . I am focusing if this swelling has something to do with his creatinine of 1.7 and need to go to ER ,gets easily worn out from walking but I expect it because he has just had post op rt knee surgery . What can you say please do I need to go to ER for more exam like sets blood test to pinpoint the problems vs taken 97.3 P 73 RR 18 BP133/73
