Even it can occur if the sexual intercourse was rough. The insides of the vaginal and vulval skin are very delicate. It can get damaged due to even minor trauma. If the vagina was dry during sexual intercourse, damage of the vaginal walls could have occurred and this results in swelling and pain. The swelling and pain settles with using ice packs and simple painkillers like Ibuprofen (provided you are not allergic to them)with in a couple of days. So, it is important not to have dryness of your vagina during sexual intercourse. You could use lubricating gels like K-Y jelly. The lubricating gels can be used along with condoms too.
