What Causes Swelling And Discoloration In The Finger Knuckle?
A few days ago I bent my middle finger backwards (hyper-extended?) , and ever since then it hurts to move it. The middle knuckle is visibly larger and red with a bluish tint. When I squeeze it, it causes pain. Also, when I try to bend it, it will not contract all the way down. It will move on its own, but it hurts when I try to exercise it. I didn t know if It could be jammed, dislocated, or pulled a tendon.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling and discoloration in the finger knuckle . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sunburn or another kind of burn , infections , lupus erythematosus , dermatomyositis , hormonal changes or seasonal allergy . There can also be other reasons like gout and injury .I would suggest you to apply petroleum jelly , avoid applying any other cosmetic , keep it clean and dry and take anti histamine like benadryl . If condition doesn't get better then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants , corticosteroid ointment or antibiotics . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for other reasons.
