What Causes Swelling And Bruising On The Foot After Falling A Heavy Object?

Hi! I dropped a heavy object on my foot 2 days ago. There is swelling & bruising on the top of my foot. I can move my toes but the pain on my foot doesn t seem to be getting any better. Should I break down and go get it checked out? I have been keeping it elevated and iced when I m home.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Foot is a vulnerable part of body, which helps us in moving about & being self sufficient. It has a complex arrangement of bones/muscles/tendons/ligaments/blood vescles/nerves.Most of them being superficial.
You had a heavy object a fall on your foot.Bruising & swelling along with pain might be out of injury to either of the important component of foot.
I would advice you to consult an orthopedic doctor, get yourself physically examined.X ray foot should also be done-to pin point the injured part,to be followed by specific treatment.
It's always better to exclude serios injury to feet than have a chronic pain & moving disability.
Thanks
