What Causes Swelling And Bruising On Legs Of A Toddler?

I have a 3 year old grandson that started limping this afternoon but didn't have any pain in his legs. By evening his limping was worse and he started to complain that it hurt too bad to walk. Both legs ended up being swollen and bruises popped up on them. He is currently in the hospital with test being run... but so far the Dr. doesn't know what's going on. He was born premie and has been on thyroid med all his life.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi.... spontaneous bruising in children is suggestive of either a congenital bleeding disorder or if it is acute it could be because of hemorrhagic fever which could be viral or even more importantly it could be severe bacterial sepsis. I am happy that he is currently in the hospital and undergoing tests. Please be hopeful.
