What Causes Swallowing Difficulty After A Tonsillectomy?

I had a particularly nasty parapharyngeal abscess in the right side of my neck 4years ago at the age of 36 which had Bell s Palsy as a side effect. I had surgery to remove over a pint of infected fluid and a drain for 6 weeks afterwards with almost 3 months of penecillin treatment before being declared in the clear . The doctors had given me a one in three chance of survival prior to this. The Bell s Palsy gradually faded over a year, although I still have a large numbed area around my right ear, cheek and right jawline and I have since had quite a lot of swallowing difficulties and breathing and swallowing seem to get confused, especially when I am tired. I wake regularly in the night convinced I am dying. These difficulties became even worse after a tonsillectomy 2 years ago. I also started to snore heavily. Could this all be connected? If so, is there anything that could be done to reduce the problem? Thank you.

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted the history of parapharyngeal abscess 4 years ago, tonsillectomy 2 years ago and now pain in throat and snoring.
Since you had to take such long treatment, I would think of a chronic problem of tuberculosis or osteomyelitis.
I would advise you the following.
CT scam of the neck and chest.
Relevant blood tests.
Proper treatment of the causative factors.
As for the snoring, sleep apnea study will help to find the cause and offer the best possible treatment.
I hope this answer helps for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
