What Causes Surgical Stitches To Come Off After A Surgery?

My brother had a very complex operation for ameloblastoma of mandible 2 was ago. This involved titanium mesh tray reconstruction and bone graft taken from the hip. The postoperative recovery was uneventful except for the repeated tiny stitches disruptions. He has to go back to clinic several times within a week to redo the stitches for 1-2mm wounds. I was wondering why this happened? Thanks. John

Disruption of the stitches in the case of your brother could be due to thin skin at site of the stitches. Stitches can come off if there is infection. However you have not mentioned this. Hence the thin shin texture would be the prime cause of frequent suture disruption.
