What Causes Sudden Rise In Temperature And Sweating?

I am a 65 year old man, slightly overweight, take blood pressure meds... I get sudden temperature rises randomly--sometimes after I eat, sometimes at night...causes sweating on upper body and head. No anxiety attacks or cardiac issues, no coughs or fevers. I have a stressful job but will soon retire. Should I be concerned? William

Dear Sir, thanks for posting your concern in HCM. You haven't mentioned whether you have checked temperature with a thermometer. If you do have a temperature spike and that is too more than 100 degree f, you need to have a full blood count done to rule out any infection. But, more often people find that they are feeling feverish and when they check the temperature, voila! They find that the temperature is absolutely normal. We say that this is hot flush. From the history, I feel you are perhaps actually having hot flushes. These are often benign, may arise from numerous reasons, including side effect of medications, anxiety disorder (although you may not be able to identify that and can be revealed after examination), sleep cycle disorder, fluctuating sugar level etc. In the absence of any other symptom, you can just relax, observe and monitor your temperature. An exercise/ walking session (30 min./day) and a relaxation session (30min./day) may help. Alongwith all these, get one fasting plasma glucose test and fasting serum TSH tests done if not done yet. Best wishes for your good health. Regards.
