What Causes Sudden Rashes On The Legs?
Hello doctor,
I developed a rash suddenly today on both my legs from mid thigh down on the inner and front part of my legs around to the back of my knees too... it's dry skin and looks like it has scratches in it while wide areas are red, inflamed and burning. I soaked in a cool bath of oatmeal and honey which helped and then tried moisturizing them but the lotions/oils make it hurt worse. The skin is hot to the touch and as soon as im out of cool water it hurts really bad, it looks like it may be spreading to the tops of my feet. I've not changed any detergents, lotions, body wash, or fabric softener or anything... is there anything I can do to help with this? I took an allergy pill and an anti inflammatory and the swelling is down a little but not gone...

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sudden rashes on the legs. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like
- keratosis pilaris
- folliculitis
- eczema
- hives
- bug bites and skin infection
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to clean the skin of legs with warm water and mild soap and betadine. You should keep it dry and take antihistamine like benadryl. Avoid wearing tight clothes. If condition doesn't get better then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order blood test , skin test , allergy test and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe clindamycin , anti inflammatory , anti allergic and corticosteroid ointment .
