I traveled to Mexico last week. During trip my husband got severe cramping and diahrrea after dinner cruise. He also had fever for two days. Symptoms went away on their own. But now I have had stomach cramps and some daiahrrea also for last 3 days. Today I also felt really nauseaus and threw up once. I have no fever. Not sure if I should go to doctor
You are experiencing traveler's diarrhea, which is quite often if traveling to Mexico.
I think you should take:
- antacids to stabilize stomach pH
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- increase plain water intake with oral rehydration salts
- follow BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast)
- take Tasectan or Pepto Bismol for diarrhea.
Until symptoms improve. If not improving, should see your caring doctor as might need prescription meds.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
