What Causes Sudden Memory Loss?

My husband recently went through a period of time when he didn t recoganize me. He thought I was someone imperersenating me. He thought their were two people impersonating me. He told our daughter he was going to call DPS and have them come out to the house and have them fingerprint print me to prove I wasn t his wife. now he says he remembers me and am glad I m back. What could have caused this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern. From the information you give, your husband may experience TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) is an acute neurological attack caused by blood flow resistance. Symptoms can be:
- A weakness of one side of the body,
- tingling,
- loss of vision,
- difficulty speaking,
- suddenly unconscious,
- forget in a time or a sudden thing.

These symptoms may last within minutes to 24 hours. TIA is a risk factor for stroke or stroke repeat.

The other cause like Alzheimer's Disease, or Post traumatic amnesia, etc.

Does He experienced injury? Does he have a hypertension? Also, how about his daily activities? Can he do His daily activities well? Is there any interruption in doing daily activities?

I am suggesting you to bring your husband to the neurologist or psychiatry to treat him better.

Take Care.
