What Causes Sudden Memory Loss In A Child?

My step son was at school and suddenly started starring of into space. He even good up and walked to the office and sat down. It took the teachers and school nurse over 45 minutes to bring him back around to reality and when they did he didn t remember anything. He didn t even remember walking to the principals office and asked them what he was doing in there and how he got there. What could possibly cause that to happen and should we be worried? His father is unsure but does not think this is an isolated incident. He thinks it has happened before only not so badly and only recently has this started.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I have reviewed your query in detail and here is my advice.

The symptoms your son experienced is possibly due to absent seizures. An electroencephalograph is required at this point. Please be advised to follow up with his pediatrician.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment is with anti-seizure medication(Zarontin).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal,
