What Causes Sudden Leg Spasms During Sleep At Night?

Almost every night I wake up after sleeping 4 to 5 hours with my legs aching. I try different positions and nothing seems to help. Sometimes I eventually fall back to sleep. I average less than 7 hours of sleep a night. I am a female, almost age 73.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The possible causes are peripheral vascular diseases and neuropathy. As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.
If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.
You have to go for a vascular Doppler for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
