Hello and thank you for using HCM. I carefully read your question and i totally understand your concern.I will try to explain you something.
As you explain your husband might have experienced a heart rhythm issue. A strong, faster and sudden heart beat make me thing of paroxysmal supra-ventricular tachycardia or atrial fibrillation depending if your rhythm was regular or irregular. These rhythm issue might happen for different reasons like stress, anemia, hyperthyroidism, excessive alcohol consumption ect. But it is difficult to say just by you symptoms without documenting the rhythm problem.
This is the reason why your doctor said just monitor this situation. If i was your treating doctor, i would recommend some simple examinations like a blood sample, thyroid hormones, an echo-cardiogram and a holter monitoring. If all this are normal we have nothing to do but just wait and if you feel the same symptom you should make an electrocardiogram that moment if it is possible to document the rhythm problem.
So, I suggest you to make the examinations listed before and than just do a normal healthy live.
Hope I was helpful. Best regards.
