What Causes Sudden Increase In GGT Value In A Blood Test?

Dear Sir, during my last bloodtest I found out that my Gamma GT value is high. last year Mar 134--i stopped taking medicine altogether. I have injested nothing in over a year. now my GGT has reduced to 111. I today just stopped drinking altogether. My son was killed a year ago . All that i do drink is Wine and now today I am done. Should I rush and have other test or should I wait the 3 months test and see where I am at?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Increased GGT indicates alcoholic liver injury.
It is important to know lipid profile, bilirubin level,SGPT and viral markers.Ultrasound of abdomen should also be done.
You should take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months. It will help in regeneration of liver cells.
You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products.
You should avoid alcohol completely.
You should increase your physical activity in the form of exercise.

Get well soon.
Take Care
