Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been having this sudden dizziness and cannot think straight. The other day, he asked me to drive bec he felt dizzy and all of a sudden, he turned left on the stop sign without stopping and we are lucky that we were not hit by vehicles that had the right of way.
Hi. Dizziness may have several causes. One of them is a temporary block to blood flow in the arteries of the neck or brain. The other causes are related to low blood sugar which may be due to anti diabetic medicines and other causes. Dizziness can also occur transiently due to inner ear problems called labrynthitis which can occur sometimes after fever or flu type unless. There are also conditions called benign positional vertigo again inner ear problems that cause dizziness. Heart valve narrowing may cause dizziness too because of reduced blood flow. Rarely tumors in the cerebellum in the brain cause dizziness. Low hemoglobin called anemia can cause dizziness. My advice is to get a complete blood count, blood sugar test and ENT evaluation done as a first step.It is very important not to drive vehicles or walk alone during dizzy spells. For most labrynthitis related problems rest and medications such as cinnarizine suppresses dizziness. If dizziness is related to low blood sugar or anemia that has to be detected and treated. Basically treatment depends on the cause of dizziness.
