Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Besides a sudden cold, what would cause sudden congestion in my lungs? Unlike a common cold, this didn't start in my sinuses and came on suddenly. (I was out working in the cold and damp, but was careful to come inside to get warm and dry) Very painful cough high in my throat. Kinda scary, since I'm alone.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you symptoms of sudden cold and chest congestion which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection occur due to bacterial as well as viral infection. But the symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction like allergic rhinitis. It could be due to poor immunity of body as well. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup. Doctor may order certain test to confirm the diagnosis like blood test, throat swab test and prescribe X-ray chest examination as well. You should start treatment after complete examination. You should avoid taking outside food. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take proper course of antiviral/ antibacterial medication along with anti inflammatory medication or anti allergic drugs .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
