What Causes Strong Headaches At The Back Of The Head?

Currently I have noticed that I have been getting strong headaches in the back of my head . sometimes it feels like someone is actually pinching on the back of a nerve back there when I get these and I get that vertigo feeling . What are these things ???? I notice I tend to get them when barometric temp goes above 30 , and before it rains . Went to my Dr. all he basically did was a blood test , and told me that I was fine . But im still getting these awful Headaches ... Could El Nino have something to do with these ??? Please help . I have never had these before .

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to occipital neuralgia.

Do you have any other symptoms like vomiting or gait disturbances? These symptoms would be concerning for possible intracranial lesion (a tumor in the posterior fossa crani).

For this reason, I would recommend performing further investigations to determine the possible causes:

1- a cervical spine X ray study

2- a brain MRI.

If your brain MRI results normal, occipital neuralgia would be the most probable cause.

In such case, I would recommend starting Topiramate or Carbamazepine for headache prevention.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Aida
