What Causes Stomach Pain With Frequent Stools In Children?

hi doctor, am writing for my son who is 16 now

he's got a stomach problem from september. his frequency of passing stool increased from 1 time a day to 5-6 times a day.(stool is sometimes watery and sometimes solid). intake was less. he had a feeling of fullness always. his stool test, blood test and urine test chest xray are all normal. doctor didnt give any medicine because all tests were normal. Later in october he started getting acidity problem as well. we took him to a gastroenterologist and blood test was repeated and breath test was also done.thyroid is normal. only the CRP was a bit high. otherwise everything was normal. since doctor didnt give any medicine i gave him some herbal medicine at home. with that his stool frequency and gas is in control. but over the last month he started to have nausea and he vomited 3 times. still appetite is not normal. he has lost a lot of weight some 12kgs over the last 3 months.

we did an ultrasound and chest x ray and blood test today that also shows normal. what could be the reason for this according to you?? waiting for ur valuable advice. we live in dubai.

Hello,

Since there is diarrhea with frequency of passing motion of 5 to 6 times a day, there has to be a reason. And now, he also has loss of appetite and weight.

Since 2 gastroenterologists have seen him and undergone many tests which are essentially normal indicate IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) that is irritable bowel syndrome as the most probable cause.

In this condition the investigations would be normal and hence the cause can be anxiety or stress and since your son is 16 years old the possibility is more.

You should consult your Doctor for preliminary counselling and get a referral for a Specialist to have proper clinical evaluation and further management to get okay. Proper care can help with the appetite and weight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
