What Causes Stomach Pain And Gas Cramps?

I'm a 25 year old male and I've been having mild to severe stomach/gas pains for several months, and they seem to get worse at night when I'm about to go to sleep, or lying down. I have been woken in the night by gas cramps...sometimes feeling bloated, other times with a painful gurgling stomach, and a pit-in-the-stomach feeling. Today I noticed a small bruise on the lower right side of my gut, but I'm not sure if this is related. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm in a great amount of discomfort and have no medical insurance at this time. -Matt W.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were your doctor, I would advise you to completely avoid eating from outside specially fried, spicy, and fast food which might contain some components which might not be friendly to the mucosa of your intestines, and also external intestinal infections might creep into your GI tract by this way, both the situations giving rise such symptoms in your case. I would advise you to go for a routine stool test for ova and cyst and treat it if positive. Till then I would advise you to go for a proton pump inhibitor along with a probiotic drug and an anti spasmodic for a symptomatic relief. The bruise on the lower right side of your abdomen could be an independent entity and might not be related to your present abdominal symptoms. However, you need to get your abdomen examined by a general physician to rule out anything apart from the related investigations. Therefore, I would advise you to visit the ER of your nearest government hospital to get at least the routine initial treatment if that is possible.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
