What Causes Stomach Inflammation With Throat Irritation?

About a year ago i started getting a pain in my upper left side of my abdomen. I had a cat scan and everything looked good. My dr put me on a inflamatory medicine. Everthing went great up untill about 2 weeks ago the pain came back and now it is 3xas bad. Now the pain is no longer just in the upperpart of my stomach but goes all the way around to my upper back. It is very painfull and I also have a feeling of something stuck in my throat. The only relief I can get is to lye down in bed with a heating pad and that only helps enough for me to get some sleep. I am sick to my stomach and have no energy. I am usual an active person and this pain has almost stopped my life. My dr. took some blood and says he is going to test for inflamation b/c the other medicine seemed to work for a while. he seemes to think i have inflammation in my left ribs but i am unsure b/c the pain in right below my ribs! please help!

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You have the symptoms of gastritis. Probably the anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAIDs) that you took might have caused it. The pain in gastritis is located in upper-left portion of the stomach and often radiate to the back. Application of heat on an empty stomach relieves pain which you have already described.
Treatment initiated with antacids (omeprazol or pantoprazol) that relieve symptoms by reducing stomach acid and promote the healing of the stomach lining. Application of heat with a hot compress twice a daily two hours after meals, relieves pain and accelerate healing. Also patients should avoid of certain foods and beverages that aggravate the symptoms such as caffeinated drinks, alcohol beverages, spicy foods and chocolate.
If the symptoms do not alleviate after 1 week of the treatment you should make an appointment with your doctor to have additional tests including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, H. pylori testing, fecal blood testing.

I hope I have answered your question. Please, feel free to ask me more in HCM if there is anything else you need to know.

Thank you,
Dr.Malik
