Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

Your stomach produces digestive acids that help to digest the food eaten. These digestive acids are produced continuously whether the stomach has food in it or not. So when you skip meals or do not eat food for a long time, these digestive acids that are produced will start to act on the lining of the stomach leading to irritation or erosion of the stomach. This is called gastritis or inflammation of the stomach. Gastritis if not appropriately managed can lead to stomach ulcers.

The symptoms of gastritis are burning sensation, feeling sick/nausea, bloating and if the symptoms become worse there would be pain in the stomach area too along with vomiting.

After not eating for a long time, then when you eat, the digestive acids then get neutralised by the food and hence the burning sensation would settle down. That is why you are getting relief from your symptoms after you have eaten.

Pantocid DSR is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor). It suppresses the production of stomach acids; hence people with gastritis get relief when they take this medicine.

I would advise you to eat regularly, do not skip meals and do not take excessively hot or spicy food, also limit the consumption of alcohol and carbonated drinks if you take them. If you smoke, kindly stop smoking.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
