What Causes Stomach Cramps Post Menopause?

I am a 66 yr old female who has already gone through menopause. I am having some discomfort that feels like menstrual cramping (which can t be!) and I see a slight discoloration (looks like blood) on my panty liner...Should I be worried about anything?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all do not panic. In my opinion, your symptoms can be due to post menopausal vaginal or uterine infection or some kind of endometrial pathology.

Please get USG done to know about structural normalcy of the uterus, endomtrum and ovaries. A gynecology check up with per speculum and per vaginal examination is advisable. I will also suggest to get diagnosed Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy done.

In case of infection, a course of a broad spectrum antibiotic like Doxycycline is advisable. In clinical examination, it suggests atrophic vaginitis, use of local application of ointment containing Estradiol will be of help.

Use of Lactic acid containing vaginal wash during bath time is advisable. If endometrial biopsy rules out malignancy, you need not worry about the discharge.

Us of phytoestrogens tablet on daily basis for 3 to 6 months will be of help to improve your health. It helps to improve bone health and lipid profile and protects endometrial and breast tissues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
