What Causes Stinging Soreness Under The Tongue?

Just noticed a stinging soreness on the underside of my tongue; it feels sort of like a "stomach sore" I sometimes get where the inside of my bottom lip meets the bottom gum. I went to put peroxide on it and found a pea sized, dark purpleish, ballooning "varicose vein" on the outer portion of the underside of my tongue. Have never seen anything like this. Is this serious or an anomaly?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your query stinging soreness under the tongue along with a pea sized purpleish ballooning seems to be a Mucocele or a mucous cyst and is formed due to either trauma to the minor salivary gland present under tongue or due to clogged duct of the gland..
Both the condition lead to formation of a small lump filled with mucous known as Mucocele..
Mostly mucocele is self limiting and resolves in a few days, you can do concentrated salt water rinses as it helps in shrinkage of the mucocele..
In case if the mucocele is persistent and does not resolve surgical removal has to be done under local anaesthesia..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
