What Causes Stiffness In The Knee While Walking?

I have had had pain above my knee for about a month after I had a trip to er after a sciatic nerve pain in my lower leg. The knee cap doesnt hurt just on top and sides of knee. It is stiff and it is making it hard to walk . I am very active and have been doing my gym workouts but it hurts to walk which I enjoy
