Hello! Stiffness and pain during motion of joints are signs of
rheumatoid arthritis. It is an inflammatory disease of unknown cause, that affects different ages (has its peak from35-50). Women are more predisposed to suffer from this disease, 3 times more than men, and first degree relatives of those with rheumathoid arthritis are more affected. It is charachterized from swelling, stiffness, pain during motion, tenderness, motion limitations, especially of hands and feet, but it can affect any joint. The diagnostication is made by clinical objective evaluation, imaging of joints and laboratory testings. During the clinical evaluation, all joints especially hands, feet and vertebral spine, should be examined for swelling, tenderness to touch, limited and painful joint motion, deformity and rheumatoid nodules on skin near joints.
Laboratory screening include
complete blood count, red cells sedimentation rate, level of
C-reactive protein , fibrinogen,
rheumatoid factor assay, antinuclear antibody assay.
In imaging, radiography is the first choice.
Treatment include nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs,
corticosteroids, immunosupressors, diet changes, loss of weight, exercise and some times even surgery.
As a temporary reliefing agent you can try ibuprofen 800-1200mg/day twice a day for a week.
I hope i have been of help.
