What Causes Stabbing Pain Under The Rib Cage Upon Bending?

When bending over in a seated position (as to pull on hose) my right rib seems to stick into some organ and get stuck. It s very painful and scary. I straighten up and try to relax and eventually it becomes unstuck. This last time it happened 2 days ago and my lower right area under ribs still hurt and it hurts to touch it.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have stabbing pain under the rib cage upon bending . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case the symptoms are probably due to acid reflux due to lung infection . I would suggest you to consult chest specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order x-ray and examine physically . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux problem or cardiologist for heart condition . I would suggest you to eat light and non spicy specially at night , take antacid after every meal , take light walk after every meal and keep your head elevated while lying down .
