What Causes Stabbing Pain In The Right Side Of The Head?

I am Valerie Bishop I already filled in my profile, under veebee80 . I have a stabbing pain in the right side of my head just above my neck and also in the right side top of my head. I had a C T scan which showed nothing wrong there. My Doctor said there is a muscle that goes up from the back of the neck into the head. He gave me a cortisone shot in my right hip, and I got a good nights sleep last night. The pain came back about 3 hours after I woke up. Can you suggest anything else that can be done.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are consistent with common causes like migraine or tension headache, as a first line management, you can try analgesics like aceclofenac or tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI brain to rule out possible intracranial (inside the brain) causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
