What Causes Stabbing Pain From Thigh To Knee?

What could be the cause of a stabbing pain which occurs suddenly radiating downward from the top of the anterior thigh, extending to the area below my knee while I am walking? It lasts seconds, but it is excruciating! Wondering if it is orthopedic, neurologic, muscular??? Thank you.

Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

The pain you have mentioned can be due to nerve involvement though any strain in anterior thigh muscles present with such symptoms but for that any history of over usage, trauma, heavy work or such activity has to be there. Moreover it would have been associated with local tenderness on touching, inflammation, redness or temperature.

The nerve can be locally entrapped or having pressure symptoms due to entrapment else where.

Most appropriate measure should be to get a review with a neurosurgeon or a physician who may advise you to have Xray of lumbar spine or may run nerve conduction studies in severe cases.

Meanwhile you can using analgesics like acetaminophen or muscle relaxants like orphenidrine or gaba pentins.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
