What Causes Soreness And Redness Inside The Mouth While On Antibiotics?

I too am taking Nexium Hp7 plus Levofoxacin, a totally of 5tablets x twice a day for helicobacter pyroli. I am also taking probiotics. I have a very sore, red mouth and tongue, a terrible metallic taste and am always thirsty. By allowing an hour before or after food I have controlled the nauseous stomach. By day 4 I noticed sore muscles and as this was worsening by day 6 I rang my Dr who organised blood tests. Tests came back clear but Dr requested I continue if I could. It has been quiet a battle as muscle pain and restlessness, especially in my groin and legs has continued to the point that I have trouble sleeping, getting out of a chair, and hobble around through the day. Thankfully today is day 14 as I ve had enough. Has anyone had similar problems and how long does it take for the muscle pain to go.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms can be most probably due to side effects of the medicine and looks most probably as a side effect of the antibiotic.

So if the infection has subsided, you should consult your doctor and discuss if you can stop taking the medicine.

For now, start gargling with specialised mouthwash like Magic mouthwash.

-Do warm saline gargles.
-Suck ice pops.
-Chew sugar free chewing gum.
-Drink plenty of cool water.
-Avoid spicy and acidic foods.
-Take more of probiotics like yogurt.
-Take sufficient rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
