What Causes Sore Throat?

Hi, I m 5 5, around 54kg and 18 yrs old. 2 weeks ago I was sick with sore throat type cold and yesterday woke up with my throat feeling almost as if it s bruised. It s sore when I swallow and almost feels as if my tongue is bruised as well. A friend suggested it could be tonsilitis but that s impossible as my tonsils were removed at age 4. Thanks for any ideas as to what is wrong, Isabella

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Sore throat may be caused by a viral infection or bacterial infection. Use salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use water vapour inhalation thrice a day for five days. Avoid cool drinks and ice creams. Use tablet amoxicillin and clavulinic acid 625 mg twice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult with your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
