What Causes Sore Throat With White Tongue?

I was on an antibiotic (amoxicillin) for 10 days. I've had a sore throat since then going on 8 days now with a white colored toung that looks bumpy in the back. Every time i feel better I go out, I'll have a beer and my sore throat instantly comes back. I'm also prone to yeast infections. Could this be thrush? Strep throat test came back negitive.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and the medical history of taking antibiotics it seems that you are suffering from fungal infection known as ORAL CANDIDIASIS or ORAL THRUSH which is an opportunistic infection and can occur in many people who take antibiotics as the antibiotics tend to kill even the good bacteria present in mouth[ that is responsible for preventing the other harmful organisms from attacking the mouth and causing infections] along with the harmful infection causing bacteria..
In the absence of the resisting bacteria the opportunistic bacteria proliferates as small number of fungus are already present in mouth..
The sore throat seems also due to fungal infection as if you have taken antibiotics strep throat seems less evident cause and the bumps that you are experiencing in the back of mouth can be Circumvallate papilla that contains taste buds and they are anatomically slightly elevated and may or may not be swollen..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if thrush is diagnosed Oral antifungal medication like FLUCONAZOLE or ITRACONAZOLE has to be taken for weeks..
Nystatin mouthwash gargles has to be done ..
Antifungal lozenges can be sucked upon for relief..
Take ample of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic in diet..
Drink plenty of water, do warm saline gargles and avoid antimicrobial mouthwashes and if still you are on antibiotics consult your treating physician so that he can either reduce the dose or stop the antibiotics..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
