Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain sore throat and white furry tongue is indicative of yeast infection known as ORAL THRUSH OR CANDIDIASIS..

It is a fungal infection cause by the fungus Candida Albicans and there is formation of white cheesy patches over the surface of tongue as well as it can include other mucous membranes like inner cheeks, lips, gums ,throat etc,,

It also causes dryness of mouth and throat and the infection can extend to the throat causing patches in the throat and leading to a painful condition known as Oesophageal Thrush..

It also causes bad breath, burning sensation in mouth and difficulty in swallowing..

It can occur due to a number of conditions like dry mouth, long term use of antibiotics, steroids, anticancer drugs, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immuno compromised conditions like HIV , uncontrolled diabetes, denture wearing, poor oral hygeine, pregnancy etc..

I would suggest you to consult an oral pathologist and get clinical evaluation done and in case of thrush it has a demarcated clinical appearences and can be very well diagnosed clinically..

In case of thrush antifungal medications like Fluconazole and Itraconazole can be given orally..
Nystatin mouth ash and antifungal lozenges can help..
Do warm saline gargles.
Maintain a good oral hygeine but do not use antimicrobial mouth washes..
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration..
Taking Probiotics frequently in diet like Yoghurt and garlic can help in clearing of the fungus..

In case if you also have tonsil stones get them removed by an ENT surgeon once the thrush is cured..

Hope this information helps..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query sore throat, white patches on tongue and halitosis is because of strep infection of oral cavity and impaired immunity of body. Poor oral hygiene aggravates your condition.

Oral thrush is the major cause for white patches on tongue along with dry mouth. Poor salivation leads to bacterial growth and accumulation of deposits in oral cavity.

Maintain proper oral hygiene. Brush and floss regularly. Take proper antibiotics course. Gargle with beta-dine and saline rinses. Scrap off debris attached to tongue very gently. Nystanin suspensions are effective to fight against white tongue patches.

Visit dentist for proper examination . Doctor may perform oral prophylaxis like scaling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
