What Causes Sore Throat And Pus On Uvula?

I have large bumps on the back of my toungue, and my throat is very sore. There is puss on my uvula and not so much in my throat but it s red. Hurts to swallow as well. I had strep just a few weeks ago and they gave me omoxicilan and it was fine. When I noticed my throat started to hurt I took the omoxicilan because I had a lot left and it didn t help at all. So I m thinking it mah not be strep? I m not sure though.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM.

The infection of the uvula is a common complication of a strep throat. If the pus is too much it may need incision and drainage by an ENT specialist. Antibiotics may not work alone in uvular infections since they are different from throat infections. You may need oral antiseptic mouth washes, anti-inflammatory medications and stronger antibiotics to manage such infections. You may also need blood work up to assess your cell counts and immune status.

See your physician or an ENT specialist to manage this. It may not be enough to deal with by self medications.

Hope this information was helpful. Do let me know if you have any other concerns.
