What Causes Sore Throat And Pressure In Ears?

Hello,Last Monday I developed a really bad sore throat with a 101 degree fever. After a week today this morning my throat is feeling better, but still hurts a little bit. During the course of the week though, my ear became very clogged with pressure like something was inside my ear canal pressing on my ear drum outwards like something was trying to bust through. My ears feel better, but now when there s silence I can hear a ringing in my right ear that won;t go away.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of sore throat, fever along with clogged ears have been due to viral throat infection leading to either common cold or flu..

Clogging of the ear long with pressure over the eardrum and ringing in the ear seems to be due to ear infection and fluid accumulation in the ears secondary to throat infection as ears and throat are connected via Eustachian Tube..
Ringing in ear can also be due to perforation in the eardrum secondary to ear infection..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Otoscopy, x ray, MRI scan, Audiometry to confirm the exact cause of it and treatment can be done accordingly..etc

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, decongestant nasal sprays, antibiotic and analgesic eardrops..
In case if there is fluid accumulation surgical drainage of ears can also be done..

In case if ringing still does not subside you can be advised Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised..
White noise devices can be advised..
You can also be advised Neuromodulation..
Avoid exposure to very loud sounds and also avoid diving, swimming etc..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
