What Causes Sore Throat And Flu After Oral Sex?

3 nights ago, I had oral sex with a guy I barely know. I have never had oral sex before, but a few hours later I received flu like symptoms. Today, my head still aches and my throat is still sore. I also started my period a week early. Should I be worrying?

Hi,

It is possible to acquire several forms of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) through oral sex should your partner be infected. There appears to be some significant risk of acquiring chlamydia and gonorrhoea through oral sexual activity. You might also have got a flu or bacterial infection from the transmission of germs during oral sex. You need not worry by getting a throat swab after consulting your doctor helps if you have got an infection that needs treatment. The throat swab culture will tell if there is any bacterial growth in your throat and what are the medicines that will work against it. Please do warm water gargle twice a day for a week to comfort your throat. Next time have your partner wear a condom if you give oral sex. This is the best way to prevent any infection.
