What Causes Sore Throat And Excessive Saliva?

I have a bad sore throat and I think that has given me an ear infection. Now this morning I have a weird excess of saliva which I have never had when I come down with a cold. It makes the sore throat worse because I have to swallow much more than usual. What is going on?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain I would like to explain you that excess salivation is experienced due to 2 reasons, one is when there is increased productivity of saliva while second reason is reduced ability to swallow..
In your case it seems that you have the second condition more prominently as sore throat is causing painful swallowing and due to it there is a Psychological feeling of increased salivation..
There can also be slight increase in saliva flow due to infection and irritation leading to stimulation of Salivary Glands..
Nothing to worry as it is temporary and will resolve as the sore throat will resolve..
As of now you need to take treatment for throat infection like taking a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can gargle with antiseptic mouthwash 2 to 3 times a day as it has drying effect in mouth..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
