Hi, for the past week now I have been experiencing a sore throat. It really hurts to swallow at the side of my throat and my ear on that side hurts. I also cannot open my mouth very wide and when i try my ear really hurts. The back of my tongue is also very sore. I have been on penacillan now since thursday and have hardly seen an improvment. My main concern is opening my mouth. I also cannot talk properly as a result of this. What could this be? and why is the medicine not working?
I think you may developed tonsillitis or TM joint arthritis. Yes, eustachian tube block or tonsillitis may cause pain while opening of mouth. Use tablet Amoxicillin and Clavulinic acid 625 mg for five days. Use water vapour inhalation thrice a day for five days. If symptoms have not improved, please consult with your physician / ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
