What Causes Sore Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?

Hi, I think I got tonsillitis because my throat is soar and feels swollen and hurts to swallow. It came on fast and got worse over a few hours. I m trying to sleep but I have a tickle in my throat and feel like I need to cough buts it s a very dry cough and hurts my throat. Might go to urgent care tomorrow because I have not had a soar throat feekblike this. I have many allergies and can not tolerate many medicines or lozengers but I can handle Benadryl. Is is ok to take Benadryl for the swelling? I m concerned it will dry my throat out even more but I need some relief. Thank you, Janae

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you can use the benadryl to help with the symptoms, if you can use anti inflammatory medication such as naproxen or ibuprofen, one of these would help with the pain.

A cough suppressant would decrease the coughing and the resultant discomfort in your throat eg dextromethorphan
This is over the counter

I hope this helps
