Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've noticed over the past two days my throat was feeling sore. I haven't been coughing much, but I have been spitting a lot of mucous out. I finally looked in a mirror at mouth. The roof is blotched with several shades of red, but my uvula has patches of black on it. Any idea what it could be?
It seems like a viral throat infection along with secondary bacterial infection and the redness and blotching over the palate is due to inflammation caused secondary to infection as well as swollen and dark patches over uvula is due to Uvulitis caused due to infection..
Nothing to worry, you can take a short course of antibiotics like Cephelexin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles, chew vitamin C pellet, avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water..
If does not improve in a week consult an ENT Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like throat swab culture can be done along with chest x ray for further diagnosis..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
