I just read same condition. Torn piece of Clear plastic lodged in throat. XRay, endoscope thing with camera on end & ct scan show NOTHING.. Sore in bottom of my throat & with hard chest pains. Shortness of breath with word gaps in conversation. Doc says plastic scratched going down & will pass. Not so. Stuck in esophageal area. 3 vists to emergency room. 1 visit to E.N.T Doc. Nothing. What do i do? Need more test. 100% sure its not scratch but clear plastic piece from torn bag. Enhaled when trying to rip open & spit out. Please help!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The most common reason for these symptoms would be a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Coughing can cause chest pain because it can affect the muscles in the chest. In some persons pain can also occur due to irritation/inflammation of a lining outside of the lung. Paracetamol would help with the sore throat and also help with the chest pain as well. There are also local medications (gargles, sprays etc) that can help with the sore throat e.g. chloroseptic, diflam or covonia throat spray. If your local pharmacy does not have these, they may have similar alternatives, they are usually over the counter medication. A cough suppressant, which would be found in over the counter cough medication, would help with the cough. e.g. Dextromethorphan. Cough suppressants should be easily found at any local pharmacy. Fluids would help with the dryness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
