What Causes Sore Throat And Blocked Nose?

Hi, for the past two two days I have stayed home with a very sore/tickley throat with the constant urge to cough. My nose is constantly clogged, my ears hurt and my skin on my throat and under my chin itch a lot. I've also had headaches everyday for the past 2 weeks. What is it and what can I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat and blocked nose. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to viral infection or viral pharyngitis. Need not to worry. Avoid intake of outside food. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test . Usually it will go away by its own in few days , but doctor may prescribe antiviral like acyclovir , anti inflammatory along with drug like sucralfate to heal throat lining in severe cases . You should keep sipping warm water.
