What Causes Sore Throat Along With Chills And Fatigue?

Hello doctor. I am a 24 year old female. In the last 4 months, I ve been sick 3 times with a horribly sore throat. Along with the sore throat, I feel the chills and have a stuffy nose. I feel exhausted. The glands/lymph nodes/tonsils in my neck feel very swollen. My tongue has huge white lumps on the back. About 18 months ago, after eating a lot of sugar, I experienced these same symptoms. I had strep throat a lot as a child. My tonsils have not been removed, but I m wondering if that would help? Should I see a doctor?

Hello,

Whenever you are having sore throat next time, a throat swab culture should be done to identify organism if present. Rule out infectious mononucleosis by peripheral smear examination and serological test for that.

A CBC and ASO titer tests should also be done. Drink more water, avoid excess spicy foods, and have more Fruit juice. Consult an Otorhinolaryngologist for the examination, and a further management plan will decide accordingly. Do not hurry in removing tonsil in this adult age group.
