Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently using fluticasone (Flonase) and am experiencing sore throats in the morning and some thick phlegm as well. As a result I speak with a hoarse voice for some time. The pain goes away but I m concerned about the cause. I gargle with salt water thinking this may be a cold or some other throat infection, but want to make sure it isn t the result of this medication.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sore throat after using Fluticasone . Well the symptoms you mention in query occur due to many reasons like upper respiratory infection ( bacterial or viral ). But in your case the symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction due to fluticasone . I would suggest you to consult chest specialist . Doctor may order certain test like nose or throat culture and test , blood test , viral culture test and chest X-ray to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other condition like viral infection. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , anti inflammatory and decongestants. Doctor my also alter the dose of medicine you are already taking or prescribe substitute.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
