What Causes Sore Swollen Lymph Nodes On Neck?

Hi. My daughter is 16 yrs old. Today she noticed her lymph nodes on the left side of her neck, below her ear, are sore and swollen. What can cause this and what should we do? I just want to make sure this isn t something that requires emergency medical attention or just take her to her family doctor tomorrow if the pain and swelling persists. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Brief answer. : mostly acute non specific lymphadenitis
Detailed answr...:
Dear ,
The most common cause of lymphnode enlargement is acute non specific lymphadenitis causing severe tenderness and no cause has been specified for it.
2nd most common cause is tuberculosis but that is associated wid chronic fever and cough.
U shold have a course of antibiotics like cefadrocyl 500 mg bd for 5 days along with pain killer.
If not relieved within 7 days than visit a physician asap.
Fnac is diagnostic
