What Causes Sore Breasts And Headaches After Medical Abortion?

I had a medication abortion 3 weeks ago. I m having sore breast and headaches. I ve been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend almost every day since 5 days after the abortion. I took a pregnancy test and it s a faint positive. Could I be pregnant again or are these hormones from my previous pregnancy?

Hello,
Return of ovulation takes at least 2-3 weeks after an abortion. The pregnancy hormones continue to stay in the body for some time after the abortion and usually show positive pregnancy tests until 2-3 weeks afterward. Usually, abstinence is advised until 2 weeks after the abortion to enable enough time for the healing of tissues in order to prevent infection. Also, a follow up visit to the consultant and a trans-vaginal sonogram are done to confirm completion of the process. You need to follow regular contraception if you do not wish another pregnancy now. Hope this helps.
