What Causes Smelly Vaginal Discharge After Menstruation?

Hi. I have smelly discharge and vagina from my period to when I ovulate. There s no infection, tested several times. Pap smear came back ok. I am 38, weigh 69kg and 1.71m. I got off a hormonal implant (Jadelle) last year June and currently on no birth control. What could be the cause?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Smelly vaginal discharge is commonly due to bacterial vaginosis, yeast or chlamydia infections.

Be careful not to leave any tampons after menstruation, they may cause infection & foul-smelling discharge.

You are suggested to get your pelvic examination done by a gynecologist. If sexually active she may tell you do do the tests for STD to stay on the safer side. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
