What Causes Small Recurring Blister Like Sores On Instep Of Foot?

I have small recurring blister like sores on the instep of one foot. I have tried otc anti-fungal cream to no avail. I have been using prescription steroid cream and it does seem to dry them up but they continue to recur. They do not itch or hurt but are unsightly. When they pop and dry up they leave little red dots on my foot until the skin peels away.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The small recurring blister like sores on the instep of foot can be either due to dermatitis or fungal infection (Tinea) in that region.
Application of topical steroid will take care of the inflammatory process and provide temporary relief.
However if the causative organism is not removed, it will keep recurring.

Management includes:
1. Keeping the area dry & avoid too much exposure to water or sweat formation.
2. Antihistamine preparations like cetirizine to reduce the itching sensation & provide symptomatic relief.
3. Application of topical antifungal cream like Clotrimazole or Miconazole to tackle the causative organism.
4. Topical antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

If symptoms still persist or aggravate further, then it will be better to consult a Dermatologist & get a proper examination done to find out the actual cause. So that appropriate management steps could be taken.

Also avoid wearing tight shoes, as it will cause sweating & predispose to fungal infections.
Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
