What Causes Small Painful Lumps On The Ear?

I have had my ears pierced for 40 years. Some times a lump forms under the skin where the piercing is on my right ear. It hurts to put an earring in when the lump is there. I noticed it first after wearing inexpensive earrings. I have tried putting neosporin on the wire but it doesn t seem to be helping. How can I get rid of the lump?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! Thank you for writing us here.
Well it could be a little infection there on your ear lobe.
If possible, you can squeeze the pus there. It could bleed though and make sure you clean your ear lobe properly with a good antiseptic so it doesn't get infected again. Also I would suggest you not to put an ear ring for few days so its drained properly.

Best regards,
Dr Gunjan
